INTERNATIONAL CO-OPERATION
TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —If Mr Aderman- would consider the doings of some of the members o£ the League of Nations, during the last 10 years he would surely see the rotten foundation on which that body is built. What have some of these members donG towards disarmament? Did either France or Italy pay the slightest attention to Britain's example? Did France show goodwill and a measure of trust towards Germany when she fortified her eastern frontier, expecting at the same time the latter country would remain unarmed and unfortified? The fact that France did this is proof that she did not trust .Germany and therefore, all her expression of concern over the denunciation by Germany of the Locarno Pact was so much " eyewash." Was it not the lack of goodwill and confidence shown by France and Italy that led Germany to break away from the League? Is it'to. a League built on a foundation of distrust.and fear that Mr Aderman would have Britain hand over her Godrgiven heritage whereby she can exert her influence in the problem of the world's peace? How can the" world position be improved if Mr Aderman and his confreres will presume that the Prince of Peace is eoing to use a League for His purposes which is built on such a foundation as this League has proved itself to possess? It seems to me that our- clergy are failing to point out that peace can come to the world only through the working of the spirit in the individual. They would have us believe that there is a possibility of peace in a World where the teaching of Jesus Christ is accepted in principle more than in practice. It will be time to talk about peace when our Christianity becomes real and not nominal. Let the clergy stick to the truth that" is- to be found in the Bible. I have yet to learn that the Scriptures prophesy that world peace is to be attained through any league of nations. They do contain quite a lot about a people through whom all the families of the earth are to be blessed. Let them bend their energies to the task of bringing their own people to a sense of their individual responsibility towards God. It is high time we set our house in order. "Righteousness exalteth a nation. Sin is a reproach to any people." —I am. etc., F. It. Hall. Mosgiel. June 14. =
