BUTTER FOR HOSPITALS
SIDELIGHT OF CONTROL COMPANY WITHHOLDS TENDER. A sidelight on the Government's scheme for the marketing of dairy produce was disclosed at a meeting of the Walkato Hospital Board last week, when the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., wrote in reply to the board's request that it should submit a tender for the .supply of butter to the Waikato and Rotorua Hospitals for three months from July 1. The company added: "We wish to inform you that, as the Government control on butter takes effect as from August 1, and as we have no information as to what the price will actually be, we regret that we cannot on this occasion enter .a tender, as requested." The chairman (Mr J. J. Ryburn) said the Government had made no announcement as to the conditions under which local sales of butter could be made, and it was therefore to be presumed that no alteration would be made in the meantime. Another company, however, had submitted a tender.
On Mr Ryburn's motion the tender was accepted.
