BLUFF TO LYTTELTON
MOTOR SHIP'S NEW RECORD
(Peb United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, June 11. A new record for the run from Bluff to Lyttclton was made by the Blue Star line motor ship Empire Star, which arrived at Lyttelton this morning. Full speed was ordered at 5.25 p.m. on Wednesday outside Bluff, and the first reduction in speed was made at Lyttelton Heads at 10.12 a.m. to-day, the elapsed time beiti2 16 hours 47 minutes. The average speed was 18.3 knots, nearly a knot faster than the speed required of vessels in the inter-island service between Wellington and Lyttelton to make their run in the usual time.
