TROTTING NOTES

By Sentinel. Ashburton The first race at Ashburton will start at 11.55 a.m. Gaillard Gaillard is reported to have sharpened up a good deal as a result of his race at Ashburton. The Record War Buoy holds the record for the Sapling Stakes at 3min 21 3-ssec. Frisco Lady is next best with 3min 24 3-ssec. Cloudy Range ,

Cou y Kuuge is reported to have trained on in pleasing style, and is in great shape at present. He came over a final quarter in 30 l-ssec in a recent work-out.

On Time It 'w officially announced that the various events at the Ashburton Trotting Club's meeting will be run right up to the official times on the card; De Soto

De Soto is the ruling favourite for the County Handicap to be run at Ashburton, and others fancied are Cloudy Range, Grace M'Elwyn, and Raydus. Peterwah

The imported horse Peterwah, who was foa.ed in 1921, is now stationed in Victoria. Peterwah put up a record of 4min 23 4-ssec at Addington.

A Capable Horse Treasure Bond will win races when he learns to begin quickly. At Addington cm Monday he had no difficulty in pacing a mile and a-half in 3min 26sec. He did the first mile in 2min 18sec, and he completed his task as if a two ; mile journey would be no trouble to him. Guymond

I'hc six-year-old gelding Guymond has been secured by E. C. M'Dermott. The sou of Guy Parrish and Lady Raymond aroused considerable interest in 1933 by winning four races within one week, and the speed arid stamina he displayed on those occasions, (says "Argus ") made him appear to be. a horse with ability to reach good class. His successes were of a -flash-in-the-pan variety, for in his next eight starts, four thirds were the best he could do. Last season he competed in 22 races for two wins, four seconds, and four thirds, but thi s term he has started on only four occasions for one third. Prior to being purchased by the Addington sportsman, Guymond had done all his racing for Mr S. Bennett, under L. F. Berkett, who trained Raydus for several years, before that gelding joined M'Dermott'e establishment. It is more than likely that Guymond will win races in Canterbury < At Adclington "I'lie wcauier was fine and the Addington track was in excellent order for fast work on Wednesday morning, but few horses were sent against the watch. Repeal and Racketeer were associated in a serviceable effort over a mile and a-half. Repeal acted as pacemaker until the straight was reached, where Racketeer joined him, and they finished on terms. The first half-mile occupied lmin Msec, the mile 2min 23 3-osec, mile and aquarter 2min 56sec, and the full distance 3min 27 3-ssec. Racketeer appears to be coming back to form. Becky Direct and Gaillard _ went a mile and a-quarter. Becky Direct was the quickest to begin, but when a furlong had been covered Gaillard ran up to her, and they raced together for the remainder of the journey. The first four furlongs occupied lmin Hsec, the mile 2min 25sec, and the full distance 2min 57 2-ssec. Carrageen bowled along in fine style to record 3min 22 2-osec for a mile and a-half. He travelled at an even speed all the way. Treasure Bond began from a standing start and paced a mile and a-half com-Vv-tnli'v in 3H" The Sapling Stakes

ii linn- uiuui a;i S the essence of the contract, Parisienne would be entitled to rank as equal- favourite for the Sapling Stakes. At Ashburton lust month the filly registered 3min 22 2-osec when she finished third in a 3.43 race, while Southern Chief took exactly the same time for third in the 3.39 division. Of the two performances; however, that of Southern Chief (says'the Timaru Herald) was much the more impressive. The only other two-year-old yet placed in an allaged handicap is Effie Parrish, who took 3min 34 4-ssec at Oamaru. The track was slow, but there was not much merit in the performance. Frisco Boy stepped about 3min 24sec for fourth at Ashburton on Saturday, but his form was no better than that of Becky Direct, who started from No. 18 (in the second row) and was close up without being driven out. Of the other youngsters in the Stakes, Loyal Pat has strongest claims to consideration. He was second inthe Timaru Futurity Stakes, and was in front of Becky Direct, E'fte Parrish, Tim Worthy, Dark Hazard, Donald Dhu. Rapidian, and Zincali in the Wai-iti Trot at Washdyke. The bie gelding looks to be a good place prospect.
