ASSAULT AND ROBBERY
MAN’S JAW BROKEN
MAORI COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE (Per United Press Association) PALMERSTON N., June 10. Arising from an incident on the Shannon Railway Station on May 30, Rawiri Makarika, a youthful Maori, was charged in the Magistrate’s Court with robbing William de Bidder of £7 10s, and also with using personal violence. The accused pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. De Ridder stated that he had been I talking to the accused and another Maori and had given both sonic money when they said they had none. Afterwards both accosted him and said that they did not want the money. They talked for some time, and then the accused struck him on the face, knocking him out. When he came to an hour and a-half later he found that his jaw was broken and that he had been robbed.
