HAWKE’S BAY MEETING

(Special to Dailt Times) WELLINGTON, June 10. Poor fields both in numbers and quality- have accepted for the opening of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club's winter meeting at Hastings to-morrow. The track is in good order. The club last week decided to discard the win-and-nlace system of betting, and the single pool (75-25) will operate. The following horses may be supported in their engagements:— Maiden Plate.—Agog and Lucullus Lad. Hawke's Bay Hurdles— Journet and Count Willonyx. Corinthian Plate.—Sunny Sky. June Steeplechase.—Cotsfield and Royal Banquet. Winter ’ Handicap.—The Grasper and Contract. Clifton Handicap—First Chapter and Blycain. . . Ileretaunga Handicap.—Pakanm and Passion Flower. AT ADDINGTON The weather was fine and the course in good order for fast work at Addington on Tuesday morning (says the Star-Sun). A number of horses engaged at Ashburton on Saturday were seen in action. Among them were the two-year-olds Southern Chief. Becky Direct and Royal Grattan. Southern Chief went a mile and a-half with another of his age in Toorack. Southern Chief made the pace, and reached the two-furlong disc in 43sec. He was at the half-mile post in Imin 21sec, and did the mile and a-half in 3min 40 2-ssec. Becky Direct had Gaillard as a companion over a mile and a-quar-ter. Becky Direct acted ns pilot till the back straight was entered the last time, where Gaillard ran up to her. Here Fifa joined in, and she went with them to the finishing post. Becky Direct paced the two furlongs in 36 2-ssec, half-mile in Imin 12sec, mile in 2min 21 l-ssec, and the 10 furlongs in 2min 56sec. Royal Grattan and Fifa then went a mile in 2min 17sec, after taking Imin lOsec to cover the first half-mile. Cloudy Range left on a two-mile,mis-sion. Rongomai picked him up at the four-furlong post, and acted as pacemaker until tlie straight was reached, where Cloudv Range ran up to her, and the pair finished almost on terms. Cloudv Range paced the first four furlongs in Imin 11 2-ssec, mile in 2min 21sec, mile and a-half in Sniin 29sec, and the two miles in 4mi’u 33 l-osec. Rongomai covered the mile and a-half in 3min 23sec.

Raydus appeared to enjoy his work over two miles, which he compassed in 4min 37sec. He took 2min 24sec to negotiate the first mile. Wise Guv and Chaise were indulged in a bout over one mile, the last six furlongs of which occupied Imin 43 l-ssec. _ Lady Hannah and Cadiz were associated in a spin over a mile and a-half. They did the last mile and a-quarter in 2min 55sec. . . Rocks Ahead was indulged in sprinting a isobcl Derby and Mystery Yet were companions over two miles. Isobel Derby led all the way and recorded 4min 39 l-osec, after taking 2min 24 2-ssec to cover the first mile. Mystery Yet followed her closely throughout the journey. Grand Mogul and Tempest went two miles without hopples. They did the last mile and three-quarters in 4min 28sec. Full Hand hit out in a stylish manner while going a mile. He was timed to do the last six furlongs in Imin 41sec. Bessie Parrish trotted a mile and ahalf. She is very well, but was not timed this morning.^

CHAMPION FILLY INJURED (United Press Association! (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) SYDNEY, June 10. Fidelity, the champion two-year-old filly of the present racing season, was seriously injured in her paddock while spelling, fracturing her pelvis. Fidelity will not be able to run this spring, and her prospects of racing again are indefinite.
