Mr G. W. Reid was a passenger by the through express yesterday for Wellington, where he will attend a meeting of the Society of Accountants. Mr Ken Dickson, who has been transferred to the Wanganui branch of the D.1.C., left for the north by the through express yesterday. Mr W. F. Cubitt, manager of lord Motors, Onmaru, is spending his annual vacation on a motoring tour of the Southern Lakes district and Dunedin. After a short visit to her home and two days’ work with the Dunedin Y.W.C.A., Miss Jean Stevenson, national general secretary of the Y.W.C.A. of New Zealand, left by the first express yesterdav morning for Timaru. Mr C. G. Macauley, of Mossburn, was a passenger by j the through express xor the north yesterday cn route to a visit to Australia. A Press Association cable message from London states that Sir Thomas and Lady Wilford will sail for New Zealand by the Akaroa, which is to leave Southampton to-morrow for Wellington. Mr J. H. F. Hamel left by the through express yesterday for Wellington to attend a conference of the Associated Savings Banks of New Zealand. A Press Association message from Wanganui states that Dr Hugh L. Widdowson, of Christchurch, has been appointed medical superintendent of Wanganui Hospital, in succession to Dr A. D. Nelson. A British Oflicia! Wireless message-from Rugby states that Mr N. L. Smith, Secretary for Chinese Affairs in Hongkong, has been appointed Colonial Secretary in Hongkong, succeeding Sir W. T. Southern. Mr W. T. Dunne, who for the past two years has been engaged ( as a mining engineer for the Sunshine Gold Developmeat Company in New Guinea, returned to Dunedin on Tuesday night. Mr Dunne is a graduate of the School of Mines of the University of Otago, and look a prominent part in Rugby football as an Otago and New Zealand University representative. The Union Airways liner Korimako left the Tnieri at 8.15 a.m. yesterday for Christchurch, Blenheim, and Palmerston North with Messrs Robert Linklater, G. Benson, R. Barkelcy Smith, James Crust, and Miss F. H, Crust for Christchurch. The Karoro arrived at the Taiori at 12.55 pan. with Mr C. B. Worsley from Christchurch.
