WELLINGTON, June 9
A total expenditure of £31,000 is involved in the decision of the Government to complete the Summit road which runs along the hills above Christchurch for a distance of many miles. The new scenic section of more than nine miles will be declared a main highway, and will be widened and metalled. It is estimated that the work will provide employment for 120 to 100 men for six months. Making the announcement that the road would be completed, the Minister of Public Works, Mr R. Semple, stated that a large sum of public money bad already been spent on the road, and it had been decided to finish (he job and so create an asset that could be used instead of a road which led nowhere.
