ENORMOUS TELEPHONE BILL MAID'S CALLS TO AUSTRALIA LONDON, May 22. (Received May 24, at 5.."» p.m.) A resident of Northwood who recently took a holiday, leaving his house in charge of servants, returned to find a telephone bill for over £IOO, which he indignantly repudiated. The Post Office replied that two halfhour calls to Australia were responsible, after which the householder learned that a maid servant had telephoned a young man in Australia on the assumption that calls after 7 p.m. were Is to any place.
