NEW AIRLINERS
NAMES REVEALED Imperial Ail-ways have decided to introduce an alphabetical system in naming their airliners (says the Daily fcleletters "A" and "B" being needed for the exist imp; fleet, and the letter JJ for aircraft of the Diana class, the letter "C" is to be reserved for the flyingboats now being built by Short Brothers, and "E" for the land aeroplanes being built by Armstrong Whitworth Aircraft, The 28 Empire flying-boats will be named Caledonia, Cambria, Cairngorm, Cotawold. Cheviot, Coolin, Calpe, Gapella. Canopus, Castor, Cawioneia, Centaurns, Cveuus, Capricornns, Cavalier, Corsair, Courtier, Challenger, Centurion, Coriolanus, Calpurnia Ceres Clio. Ciree, Culvpso, Camilla, Comma, Cordelia. The names of the 12 big Armstrong Whitworth land aeroplanes will bei IWWJPtone, Elsmore, Ettrick, Echo, Ensign, Explorer, Elysion, Empyrean, Egena, Enterpe, Endymion, Euralus. _ • For the Mayor composite aircraft, in Which the large flying-boat will carry ou its wing, and launch in mid-air, a longrange seaplane, the letter "M" has been allocated. . ~ The lower component of tlie Major aircraft is to be named Maia and _ the upper component Mercury. lhc significance of these names is that, in mythology, Maia was the mother of Mercury.
