AUSTRALIAN SOCIETY
SOCIAL EVENING The Australian Society of Otago opened its winter session with a social evening held in the O.K. Cafe on Saturday night. There was an excellent attendance, and the president (Mr 11. M. Mackay), welcoming those present, reviewed the successful functions of the previous year. He expressed his confidence that the ensuing year would prove equally successful, He referred to the good work of the enerCJlia past president, Mr A. A. Paape, who had set a standard which would be difficult to emulate. He also expressed regret at the enforced absence of Mr R. S. Black, who was recovering from the effects of his recent accident. During the evening the impending departure from Dunedin of Mr and Mrs O. E. Scott was referred to. Mr Scott had been a vice-president of the society since its formation, and had taken a prominent part in all its affairs. Mr and Mrs Scott weie wished every success in their new sphere The evening was passed with dancing to excellent music supplied by Mrs E. Clayton, and Signoru Stella was responsible for the arrangement of an enjoyable programme of vocal items.
