PAK-A-POO RAIDS
OFFENDERS BEFORE THE COURT SUBSTANTIAL FINES IMPOSED. (Peb United Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 29. Following raids by the police on four premises in different parts of the city yesterday afternoon, 21 men appeared before the court this morning. Wong Lee, who pleaded not guilty, was convicted of using premises in Grey’s avenue as a common gaming house. Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., said that, as it was his first appearance, he would fine him only £l2 10s.’ Wong Yon, aged 72, pleaded guilty to a similar charge in respect to premises in Pitt street, and wa.s fined £25 or three months’ imprisonment. He had been previously fined. Wong Lock pleaded guilty to a similar charge respecting premises in Hobson street. He was a first offender and was fined £l2 10s. A charge against Mee Nam Lowe, of Grey’s avenue, was dismissed. Fourteen men, charged with being found on the premises, were fined £1 each. Three similar charges were dismissed.
