ROAD IMPROVEMENT

WALTER PEAK TO MOUNT NICHOLAS MINISTER PROMISES ASSISTANCE (From Our Special Reporter) CROMWELL, March 19. An undertaking that this year’s Estimates would include a sum of money for the road from Walter Peak to Mount Nicholas was made by the Minister ot Public Works, Mr R. Semple, to a deputation from the Lake County Council to-day. It waa explained to the Minister that during the last 20 years all that had been received from the Government for the road was £75, and the County Council had spent about £3OOO on it. The deputation asked for the sum of £2OOO, spread over five otr six years, so that a road improvement programme could be carried out. “ You will get some assistance,” replied Mr Semple. “I like to help people who try to help themselves, and you may rest assured something will appear on this year’s Estimates to help you with the work."
