Ministerial. The Minister of Public Works (Mr.R. Scrapie) readied Queenstown last evening from Invereargill. To-day he will open the Roaring Meg scheme and will spend the night at Cromwell. He will inspect the proposed Maniototo irrigation scheme to-morrow, but, owing to the necessity having arisen for his presence in Christchurch on Saturday, he will not now be able to visit Dunedin. It is the Minister's intention, however, to pay a visit to Dunedin at an early date.

At the meeting of the Otago High Schools' Board of Governors yesterday afternoon the following motion was carried in silence:—"This hoard desires to record its regret at the" passing of one of the most distinguished old boys of the Otago Boys' High School in the person of Sir Francis Dillon Bell. He entered the school in 1864, one year after it had been established, and was its second dux. He earned great honours and obtained international fame as a jurist and a statesman. These honours he shared with his old school, in the welfare of which he always retained the interest. This board offers to his relatives its sincerest sympathy in their great bereavement."
