The Merton Women's Division held its March meeting on Thursday afternoon. The roll call was "A Suggestion for a Programme." A competition, the drawing of a horse, was won by Miss Powell. * * * When the Bannockburn branch met Mrs Crombie (vice-president) presided. ilie Rev. Mr Heggie, of Cromwell, gave a talk on books. Tlie hostesses were Mesdames Leslie and Felton and Miss F. Short. An enjoyable afternoon was spent by members of the Waikouaiti branch and their friends last Thursday at a garden party given bv Mrs Preston at her residence, Centrewood. After the guests had admired the garden, a sociable time was spent in playing games on the lawn until afternoon tea was served. The Otakou branch met on Thursday afternoon at the residence of Mrs G. Karetai. It was decided to order the usual number of poppies lor Poppy Uay The hostesses for the afternoon were Misses A. Russell and K. Ellison. * * * On Friday, evening the Portobello branch held a successful children's fancy dress and adults' hard-up social. The evening was spent in competitions, items, and dancing. Miss K. Ellison (Maori solo) and the local children (musical sketch) contributed. . Mesdames Brookman, Kobinson, and Perriman acted as judges, and Messrs J. W. Wilson and A. Tregonning were M.C.'s. The results ot the competitions were:—Children's fancy dress, ages one to five: Marion Ollivcr,

Dick Rusbatch. Five to 10: Andrea Nilson, George Seaton and Evan Rusbatch (equal). Ten to 15: Bella Aitken, Thomas Aitken and Stanley Stott (equal). Best paper costume: Kathleen M'Cartney. Adults' hard-up: Mrs L. Gardiner, Mr J. S. M'Cartney. # * * The Clyde branch held the first meeting of the year in the supper room of the Town Hall on Friday evening. The president (Mrs Annan) presided. The president thanked the members for their co-operation and kindness in the entertaining: of the North Otago Farmers' touring enrty. After the business had been attended to there was an interval of social chat. The fruitgrowers ioined the ladies for supper. The hostesses were Mesdames Wilson. Aitken and Annan.

When the Kia Ora branch met Mrs Durward occupied the chair. It was decided to hold a euchre tournament and dance fortnightly, commencing at the beginning of May. w.ith a view to raising funds to help the Provincial Executive's housekeeper scheme. During the evening Miss Elsie Allan a talk on her trip to the West Coast " and Franz Josef Glacier. The winners of the competitions were as follows:—Three squares of puff nastry, Mrs Dalziel; best bloom. Miss D. Kirton, The hostesses were Mesdames M'Donald and Dalziel.
