Miss Eraser, who has been prominent in nursing circles, recently resigned from her position as district midwife at Wairoa. How to have it. and why we should all try to have it," was the subject of Miss Crowe's address at a meeting of the Miller's Flat Junior Homemakers' Club held out of doors on the afternoon of March 13. On the evening of March 7 Mr and Mrs N. A. Bisset entertained a number or friends at their home. Market street, Kaitangata, the occasion being the coming-of-age of their only son, Clifford. During the evening which was spent in cards and competitions, Miss Alva Myers and Miss Ruby Grant (Invercargill) delighted all present with vocal items, and Miss Phyllis Russell with elocutionary items. Mr A. T. Smyth proposed the health of Clifford, and Mr H. S. Baker (Invercargill), on behalf of those present, thanked the host and hostess for a very pleasant evening. * # *

A pretty wedding took place at the Caversham Presbyterian Church on Wednesday morning, the contracting parties being Jessie Adeline, second daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Hanna, of Henley, and Mr A. G. Thompson, elder son of Mrs W. Thompson, of Cavereham. The officiating clergyman was the Rev. C. M. Sullivan. The bride looked charming as she entered the church accompanied by her father. She was dressed in satin, close fitting, and was attended oy _ her sister, Miss Winefield Hanna, as bridesmaid, dressed in salmon, and Miss Elva Owens as flower girl. The duties of best man were carried out by Mr A. Thompson, brother of the bridegroom. On Tuesday evening the Play-reading Circle of the Otago Women's Club opened its 1936 season with a reading of Jphn van Druten's interesting anti-war play, "Flowers of the Forest," arranged by Mrs R. G. C. M'Nab, who also read the chorus and took two minor parts. The other readers were Miss Violet Livingston (Naomi Jacklin), Miss Betty Allen (Mercia Huntbach), Mrs W. J. Morrell (Mrs 'Huntbach). Miss Duthie (the Rev. Percy Huntbach), Miss Mullin (Lewis Jacklin), Mr s S. P. Cameron (Richard Newton-Clare), Miss Blackmore (Thomas Lindsay), Miss Stella Fitchett (Beryl Hodgson), and Miss Eileen Service Leonard Dobie). Before the play-read-ing commenced. Miss Lilian M Carthy (chairwoman) announced that Miss Edith Howe's three-act play, "Rose Lane, which won the British Women's Institute original play competition last year and was read at the club a few months ago, wa a to be publicly produced on April 30 and May 1 and 2, during New Zealand Authors' Week in Dunedin.

For the many years of its existence the Mosgiel branch of the Presbyterian Women's Missionary Union has welcomed its many friends and patrons to the function with which its year's work has been brought to a close. On the present occasion, however, a change of date was found to be advisable, and the function has been fixed for the opening of the New Years programme on Saturday next, when the members are looking forward to a happy and profitable time. A garden party has been arranged to take place in the District High School Grounds, the use of which has been kindly granted by the School Committee. Visiting friends from far and near are assured of a pleasant outing, weather permitting. Scattered among the pretty flower and shrub borders there will be various stallsjumble, cakes, produce, sweets, etc.— something for young and old. bhould the weather be unsuitable, these good things will be disposed of under the shelter of the Presbyterian Sunday School Hall. Everyone's wants will be attended to by the willing workers, and a delicious afternoon tea will be served free of charge.

The Strand Salon, George street, was the scene of a jolly party, when a number of young people gathered to celebrace t le coming of age of Miss Joy Rae. lie guests were received in the lounge by the aunt of the guest of honour, Mrs M. Ga - dcr attired in a smart trock of black leaf-patterned lace with crystal accessories, assisted by Miss Rae, who wore a dainty, slim-fitting frock of ice-white moire taffeta finished with a spmy of white lilies. St. Matthew's Church was exquisitely decorated with French marigolds and hydrangeas yesterday afternoon, when two well-known Dunedin families were united through the marriage of Winifred Cleave, second daughter of Mr and Mrs C. C. Cox, of Dunedin, and John Henry Maclean, elder son of Mr and Mrs W. F. Edmond. of "Mount Lodge," Melville street. The Rev. W. A. Hamblett performed the ceremony with Mr W. Axel Newton at the organ. Messrs- R. F. Barr, Murray fiidey and Gerald Cox acted as ushers. There was much interest in the large crowd present when the bride and her four charming attendants —Misses Helen Cox, Barbara Williams and Joan Ritchie, and little Alice Mary M'Kellar—entered the. church and advanced towards the alfiir where the bridegroom, attended by Mr Erlton Wilson as bent man and Messrs J. S. Hazlctt (Burwood) and F. Leekie as groomsmen, were waiting. The bride wore a trained gown of heavy ivory satin with a high neckline and a wide berthe collar having a cut-out design in leaves outlined in crystal beads and diamente. wide dolman sleeves of knife-pleated satin and a wide belt beaded to match the collar. The 90-years-old hand-embroidered veil which had belonged to her grandmother was worn with a cap and halo of

tulle and crystal, adorned with email sprays of orange blossom, and formed a long train. She carried a sheaf of lilies. The bridesmaids and the flower girl made an effective group in frocks of russetcoloured velvet made on close-fitting Empire lines flaring from below the knees and having elbow-length puffed sleeves. Twists of gold lame and russet velvet outlined the boat-shaped necklines and were worn, halo fashion, on their hair. The bridesmaids carried bouquets of dahlias, and the little flower girl a posy. After the ceremony the guests repaired to " Mount Lodge," where hydrangeas, dahlias and mombresia were arranged in an effective scheme of decoration in the drawing room, where tea was served. Mr and Mrs C. C. Cox received the guests in the entrance hall. Mrs Cox wearing a brown lace model ensemble consisting of a slim-lined frock and a short coat dipping at the back and_ edged with fox fur. A lace bow edged with fur at the neckline and a model fur felt hat in brown with a matching ostrich feather were smart accessories. She carried orange tiger lilies. Mrs W. F. Edmond was in a cown of figure'd blue and brown ninon, with brown giepure lace forming the lower part of the skirt, and blending with ninon in the cape. She carried a bouquet of hydrangeas and wore a brown straw hat. Mrs C. Harker (Waikawa), the bride's aunt, was in a nigger-brown frock with canary-coloured wool buttons and a nigger velour hat; Miss Keeling (Palmerston North), another aunt, was in a frock of black, and grey silk, a black swagger coat and a small black hat with cock's feathers; Mrs Sandford Cox wore a navy tunic frock with a navy picture hat to tone; Mrs W. 0. M'Kellar, figured white and blue silk with a navy blue coat and velour hat; Mrs Fraser Edmond, red chiffon with a hat to match; and Mrs Edgar Hazlett, a midnight-blue frock worn with sable furs and a blue velour hat. The Moonshine Cabaret was well tilled on Tuesday evening, when the Orkley and Shetland Society entertained about 250 members and friends at the annual anniversary supper and dance. As tliis was the last function of the financial year, the committee spared no pailis to make the social a fitting finale to the year's work. The Orkney and Shetland haggis was a feature of the well-laden tables. The president (Mr W. Sahiston) occupied the chair, and extended a hearty welcome to those present, a special welcome being accorded to representatives of kindred societies, the following responding: Messrs E. Mackenzie (Scottish Society), H. Bell (St. Andrew's Society), W. H. Mackenzie (Burns Club), Ralph Harrison (Lancashire and Yorkshire Society). A programme of musical items was then contributed by the following:—Songs, Mr Wilson and Mr Arthur, Macdoncld; and recitations, Mr George Curry. The accompanists were Miss K. Matheson and Mrs A. Macdonald. The Monte Carlo prizes were won by Miss L. Kingour and Mr G. R. i Borwick. Mr J. F. Spence made an efficient M.C.
