Mr James M'Kay, of Ophir, was in the chair, and after speaking of the amount of work and various activities the branch had accomplished during the short period it had been in existence the balance sheet was adopted. After considerable discussion on the annual conference to be held in Wellington at Easter, it was decided that the president and secretary should act as delegates. MIDDLEMARCH Sheep Sale The first sheep sale of the season was held at Middlemarch on Tuesday. There was not a large yarding, and in the absence of the usual number of buyers from outside districts the sale was not as buoyant as had been expected, and prices re-, ceded somewhat. Most of the annual drafts of ewes and lambs had been disposed of for forward delivery, and the ewes and lambs on offer could not be taken as an indication of the standard of ewes and lambs in the district. Tile yarding consisted largely of ewes, which realised the followine prices:—Two-tooth. 31s 3d. 28s 6d, 26s 6d; four-tooth. 29s to 22s 6d; six-tooth, to 255; full-mouth, 22s 9d to 18s; failing-mouth, to lis. Ewe lambs sold at 21s, 19s 6d to 18s. and tussock wether lambs at 15s 9d to 135.. QUEENSTOWN The Weather Thoroughly seasonable weather is prevailing here at present. Bright, sunny days and clear night skies, with an autumn tang in the atmosphere make for exhilarating conditions which are unrivalled at any other season of the year. All around there are signs of autumn, deciduous trees making glorious splashes of colour on the commonage and along the lake side. Empire Primary Producers The party of English and South African primary producers touring the Dominion arrived inQuecnstown on Tuesday evening via rail and steamer from lnvercargifi. Yesterday they were the guests of the Government on a_ lake cruise to Glenorchy, prominent district farmers and others accompanying them on the trip. It is proposed that this morning be left free and that the afternoon be occupied in a motor .trip round the district among ' the farms. The party will be entertained at afternoon tea by Mr and Mrs Dickson Jardine at Kawarau Falls Station. Kingston-Queenstown Road The details in connection with the Kingston-Queenstown road opening ceremony on Saturday, April 4, are to be finalised to-day at the bi-monthly meeting of the Lake County Council, which is making the arrangements. It is proposed that the actual official opening ceremony will take place on one of the open spaces on Kawarau Falls Station, through which the road at the Kawarau end runs. It is now fairly certain that the Minister of Public Works (Mr R. Semple) will not be able to come down for the opening of the road. Arrow Irrigation Scheme An extension of the Arrow irrigation race is being carried out at the present time. This is to convey' the water from Hogan's Gully to the south end of Lake Hayes, via Bendemeer. The work is being directed by the Public Works Department, which has 11 men engaged. Mining Suit At the last sittings of the district Warden's Court Skippers, Ltd., Maori Point, were complainants in a suit for forfeiture of two water race licences out of Maori Gully held by Central Shotover Gold Mining ' Company, Deep Creek. The two licences entitled the latter company _to seven heads of water, and in addition they had another rate race licence for. 10 heads out of Deep Creek. Evidence went to prove that the race, constructed to carry the Maori Gully water, had not been used for 17 years, the pipe line which was erected to carry the water across the Shotover River had been dismantled years ago, and the greater part of the race was in a bad state. About half a mile from the intake was in order, and had been used by an old miner to convey water to a claim he was working; but he had no lease or proper agreement with the tributor of the Central Shotover Gold Mining Company affecting this privilege. He was just allowed to use it on sufferance provided he kept this piece of race in order and returned the wate r to the creek. —The court agreed that abandonment had been proved, and entered a decree of forfeiture, court costs (£1), solicitor's fee (£7 7s).
