IDENTITY OF DOMINION

LOST IN TERM "AUSTRALASIA" PUBLICITY DESIRED IN SHANGHAI (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 18. The need for efforts to preserve the individualism of New Zealand in the Far East was stressed, and support was solicited for the request to the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr D. G. Sullivan) for a small grant for publicity and other purposes in Shanghai by Mr S. Hutchison, honorary Government Agent there, in a letter received from him by the Council of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce. " We have suffered too long from the use of the word ' Australasia/ " he said. Mr Hutchison added: "We must preserve our own individuality, and now that Australia has a Trade Commissioner and assistant no time must be lost in having our own office, where inquiries can come direct."

The letter asked for support for a request to the Government for a grant of £2OO a year for Shanghai, and it was referred to the council's Exporters' Committee for consideration.
