A VAGRANT INCENDIARY
THREE HOUSES BURNED DOWN COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE (Per United Press Association) PAH!ATUA, March 17. Arrested at Napier and brought to Pahiatua, where he was remanded on a, charge of assault on March <>. a, vagrant (Walter Bishop) appeared before justices of the peace yesterday on a further charge of arson in connection with (lie destruction of a seven-roomed house owned by Charles Beetham. Bishop made a statement, which Detective Bickerdike produced in court, admitting an assault on a farmer named Hull. It was committed in a fit of rage, as the result of an altercation while at the latter’s farm seeking a meal. The accused also made a full admission of the burning of Bectham’s house, saying: “I did this because I felt fed up with things, and I bad already set fire to two places at that time, and did not worry about what 1 did.” On the accused pleading guilty, lie was committed to the Wellington Supreme Court for sentence, and was convicted and discharged on the assault charge.
