CRUELTY TO ANIMALS

SOCIETY FOR PREVENTION The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held yesterday afternoon. Mr E. C. Reynolds presided in th 6 absence of Mr Crosby Morris. The chairman extended a welcome to Mr A. F. Duthie as a new member of the committee. PENINSULA HIGH ROAD. In reply to the society’s letter regarding the unsatisfactory nature of the Peninsula High road for stock, the clerk of the Peninsula County Council advised that the society had been misinformed on the matter.—Mr J. R. Dickinson stated that he was far from satisfied with the state of the road for stock driving and invited members to inspect it with him.—The letter was received, and the matter held over in the meantime. INSPECTOR’S REPORT. The society’s inspector (Mr J. J. Hinchcliff) reported that during the month he had visited Tapanui, Balclutha, Mosgiel, Wingatui, Miller’s Flat, Roxburgh, Outram, Woodside, Allanton, Cromwell, Pembroke, Tarras, Cardrona, Arrowtown, Queenstown, Glenorchy and Lowburn. He had attended stock sales at Balclutha and Burnside, the Pembroke and Lake County Shows, and race meetings at Tapanui, Wingatui and Cromwell. He had been called upon to investigate only one case during the month, that of a dog tied up to a lorry without sufficient covering. He had inspected the dog and it was under cover and well cared for. During an extensive tour through Central Otago he had enrolled 13 new members. The country was looking very well and there was an abundance of feed throughout the territory. The report was adopted. ACCOUNTS. Accounts totalling £49 2s 5d were passed for payment.
