MONOWAI POWER PLANT

OFFER BY THE GOVERNMENT REFERENDUM TO BE TAKEN (Per United Press Association) INVERCARGILL, March 17. After a conference with the Minister of Finance (Mr W. Nash) and the Minister of Public Works (Mr R. Semple), the Southland Power Board today decided to take a referendum of ratepayers on the Government proposal to take over the whole of the Monowai scheme on the basis of its liabilities and assets. If carried, this means that the land rate will disappear.
