TRACK WORK AT WINGATUI

For horses going to the Oamaru and later the Riverton meetings the course proper wa« open at Wingatui yesterday morning, the trestles standing 50 feet out. The going was soft in many places, but provided good training ground. The proceedings were not very busy, and, though the conditions were cold, very little rain fell. Uratali, Salmo Salar, and Golden King were companions over a mile. The firstnamed came right away from Salmo Salar, who in turn was clear of Golden King over the last furlong, and ran his last seven furlongs in Imin 41 3-ssec. Uintah worked very well, but Golden King is short of a fast work or two. The Smuggler and a Balboa galloper in the same stable as the former ran four furlongs in 57 I-ssec. Great Pal recorded the same time when he easily accounted for the two-year-old filly in D. J. M'Donald’s stable over the same ground, but the latter has had little fast work. The going was more in favour of Daring Deed when she beat Pinal Bell by a good margin in an eight-furlong trial The last seven furlongs showed Imin 42 3-ssec. Only two gallops on the inside grass required the watch, hut these efforts were, just useful ones. Blue Metal travelled the final four of a round in 57 4-ssec, and hi« stablemate. the Tractor gelding, went six furlongs in Imin 2G 3-ssec. Cherry Queen, who is bettor now than has been seen of her for some time, reouired a lot of holding to run about seven furlongs at half pace. Grand Finale looked very well when travelling at a little over half pace, and others who executed useful work on the flat were Glenrownn, Royal Pal, Pala dino. The Jeweller, Silk Paper, Amy Johnson, and Alma. Of the two schooling efforts over the nig fences Red Lance’s wn« the better. With H. Anderton in the saddle he lumped three fences in a dashing manner, and has never gone better.

Jaunt f'T. Hichardsl jumped four fences satisfactorily, lint lie was uncertain at the first of the stand double
