THE NO MORE WAR MOVEMENT

TO THE EDITOR. SIR May I be allowed a brief reply to “C. 0.” ? I would like once more to try to show the members of his movement that they cannot over-nde the will ox Heaven, and take a short cut into the millennium by “Peaceful Lane. Certainly Britain has done her best to bring disarmament and peace into the earth, but with no success (unlike Emersons forecast quoted by ‘ C.O. ), for, unfortunately, other nations have a desire to rule the world, and by their own announcement intend to make a bid for that power by force of arms, and are now preparing. The final war of the world, however, will be ordained by the Almighty, and not left to the nations to choose their own date, .therefore it is patent that even if every Briton became a “ no more warrior ” the conflict would still come. But if all the nations and its daughters thus membered, armed themselves with that needful revival, longed for by some unnamed newspaper editor, ail would be well, for as a triumphant shout of trust in the Almighty caused the walls of Jericho to fall, so our defence would he sure with our unanimous praise “ CVO.” is not correct in thinking that I place the Old Testament teaching above the Sermon on the Mount. 1 do not. Both are the Word of God, and both are equal. The former is largely instruction to the nation; the Now testament widens out the instruction chiefly to the individual. If “C.O/’ will note the difference between the national and the individual instruction, his vision will.be largely cleared. For instance, the individual must do no murder, lint the nation must punish the wilful killer by death. On occasions the Almighty definitely instructed His people not only to go to war, hut to exterminate their enemy; so that, in defence of our Christian faith which is the coining issue m its finality, our taking up arms will he neither un godly nor unchristian. —-I am. etc., March IS G. Steel.
