MEDICAL ATTENTION AT MILFORD SOUND
TO THE EDITOR. g IR —I read with appreciation the letter of “Humanitarian” in the Otago Daily Times of the 12th inst. with reference to the need of a medical mans presence to attend to any accidents that are likely to occur from time to time amongst the 80 men doing risky work on the Cleddau and of the Te Anau and Eglinton - Milford Sound track. No doubt the duties of a doctor to that region would be of the nature of a sinecure much of the time, but the occasion might arise when a life could be saved by prompt skilled treatment, whereas at present some days must elapse before such can be obtained. In the case quoted the man was able to walk, but in, say, a case of fracture of a leg, the only chance would be by stretcher, a most difficult matter, involving much delay in that rugged region. 1 hope the letter of “ Humanitarian ” has reached the eye of someone in authority, and has caused some sympathetic consideration in the direction of the required remedy—l am, etc., Another Humanitarian, March 14.
