HILLSIDE WORKSHOPS
ANNUAL PICNIC The Hillside Workshops annual picnic was held at Waikouaiti on Saturday last, about 700 people being present, including Mr J. M. Slowley, works malinger; Mr J, Graham, shop foreman (picnic president) ; and Messrs J. V. Evans, A. Triggs, M. Thompson and J. Upchurch, sub-foremen. An energetic committee under Mr G. O’Driscoll (chairman) and Mr H. Brockie (secretary) worked unsparingly throughout the day for the comfort and enjoyment of the picnickers. Music was supplied by the Forbury School Band. The results of the various events were as follows:

Baby Shows. —Girls under nine months; Doreen Margaret M'Clean (six months) 1, Joy Mason (eight months) 2. Boys under nine months: Jack and Allan Dale (twins, five months) 1, William Deuchrass (two months) 2. Girls under 18 months: Honore Mary Hobby (15 months) 1, Beverley Lynch (12 months) 2. Boys under 18 months: Douglas Stokes (17 months) 1, Brian King (14 months) 2.
At the conclusion of the programme the prizes were presented by Mr and Mrs J. M. Slowloy to the successful competitors.
