PRACTICAL PSYCHOLOGY CLUB

“Mental Attitudes ’’ was the subject discussed at last week’s meeting of the Dunedin Practical Psychology Glub. It was stated that man was literally what he thought, his character and career being the complete sum of all his thoughts. If he kept his mind on the great and good things he would like to do, as the days passed by he would find himself unconsciously seizing opportunities that were required for the fulfilment of his desires. All things came through desire. If he pictured in his mind the able, earnest, .useful person he desired to be, the thoughts -that he held would be hourly transforming him into that, particular individual he so admired. He should preserve the right mental attitude of courage, frankness, _ and good cheer; always greet friends with a smile and put soul into every handclasp. He should not fear being misunderstood. Pear was the rock on which one split, and hate the shoal on which many a barque was stranded. Ho One passed through life without meeting diflicult experiences, , and character was formed by the mental attitude with which one faced them. The pessimist groaned and grumbled, but the optimist was like a cork on the water. Lvcn if he were forced down temporarily he could not be kept there, but come up with a rush, and a stir which everyone saw and felt. Life’s experiences were opportunities to grow, and if faced with the right mental attitude were not obstacles in life’s pathway, but were stepping stones on which one might rise to higher things.
