Reports of meetings of brunches are requested, but they should be furnished promptly, for the publication of reports that are not supplied within a week from the date of the meeting cannot be assured. At the meeting of the Macraes-Moon-light Institute on Wednesday evening Mrs F. Hay presided. The motto was “Always keep your face to the sunshine and the shadows will fall behind,” and the roll call was “ Please pay your subscriptions.” In the competition, “ Something new from something old,” Mrs F. Hay and Mrs M'Gregor were placed equal for first place. The hostesses were Misses Phelan and A. Fraser. * * * The annual meeting of the Goodwood Women’s Institute was held in the hall on Wednesday, the 11th inst., and was presided over by Mrs Ireland,, president. vice-president, Miss Dickson; secretary, Mrs Hancock; treasurer, Mrs Waldron (re-elected). Mrs Ireland presented Miss Hancock and Mrs Hancock with a small token each, they being the first and second respectively for the competitions held during the year. Mrs Borrie presided. Two minutes silence were observed in honour of the memory of the late King George. Delegates were appointed to attend the public meeting in Mosgiel about swimming baths, and to attend the Mid-Otago Conference. Three new members were welcomed. Mrs Borrie was elected president, and supporting her a committee of 12. Arrangements were made for the celebration of _ the fifth birthday party. The following were hostesses: —Mesdames Read. Peat. Kendrick and Lambie. * * * The annual meeting of the Tahakopa Institute was held on Thursday evening, Miss E. Skey presiding. The motto was “ Time is precious, but truth is more precious than time.” and the roll call “ Uses of honey.” A competition, “ Best bloom in the garden,” was won by Mrs P. Stott, with Mrs Pearson and Mrs Stoddart equal second. The election resulted in the following members being elected:— Miss M. Ayson (president), Mrs W. Dunlop (vice-president), Mrs Birsa (secretary), Mrs Dickson (treasurer). Votes of thanks were given to Mrs C. Dunlop and Mr R. H. Stickle for assisting -with the election. The hostesses were Mrs C. Pearson and Miss W. C. Murphy. The Waikouaiti Institute met in the school hall on Wednesday. The motto was “ If we cannot strew life’s path with flowers we can at least strew it with smiles.” The roll call was “ Suggestions for next year’s programme.” In the competition “Hand-worked apron” Mrs Gilchrist was first and Mrs Kerr second. Winners for the competitions for the yea? were: Mrs Jenkins 1, Mrs Kerr 2. winner of the sweets competition, Mre C. Aitcheson. Following were elected for the coming year:—President, Mrs Lang: vice-presidents, Mrs Cleave and Mrs C Aitcheson; secretary, Mrs Simmons; treasurer, Mrs O’Connell; press correspondent, Mrs Holland; committee —Mesdames Potts, Graham, M’Kenzie, O’Con-

nell, and Holland, and Miss Summers. The delegate to the recent drama festival meeting gave her report. The hostesses wore Mesdames Austin, Cleave, and C. Aitcheson. * * * In view of her approaching marriage, Miss Mona Cuthbertson was tendered an afternoon by the members of the Glenavy Women’s Institute. The programme opened with community singing, with Mr* Hamilton (newly-elected at the piano. Other items presented during the afternoon were as follows:—Pianoforte solo, Miss J. M’Lean; musical game; eong, Mrs Hamilton (accompanied by Mrs Miller); competition arranged by Mrs Trezise; elocutionary item, Mrs Archer; mystery parcel, arranged by Mrs Cutbberteorl; play-reading—Mesdames Miller, Trezise, Mieses Miller, M’Culloch, C. and J. M'Lean, and Carroll. Mrs Miller (retiring president) presented the guest with a picture, and spoke of Miss Cuthbertson’s work for the institute. Her remarks were endorsed by Misses Smart and Alexander, and Mrs Hamilton. Miss Cuthbertson suitably replied. ( * * * The annual meeting of the Palmerston Institute was held in the Clark Hall on Thursday, Mrs Forrest presiding. Mrs Forrest, who would not accept renomination for the chair this year,, thanked members of the various sub-committees who had helped during the year, laying special emphasis on the valuable work done by Miss Cameron, retiring secretary, who had been appointed treasurer on the executive of the Mid-Otago Federation. Miss Gibb was appointed delegate to the half-yearly conference in Dunedin. A vote of thanks to the president was proposed and carried. The annual election then took place, and the following officers and committee elected for the ensuing year:— President, Mrs Korner; vice-presidents, Mrs Swanson and Miss Burgess; secretary—Mrs J. Biutows; treasurer, Mrs Murphy; press correspondent, Mrs Georg# Burrows; Mrs Chalmers, Mrs Day, Mrs J. M'Gregor, Miss Diack, Mrs Dougherty, and Mrs Ross,. * * ♦ The annual meeting of the Waipiat* Institute was held in the hall on Thursday, Mrs F. Roberts presiding. The motto was “Learn from your mistakes and don’t cry over them; we best redeem the past by forgetting it.” The roll call wag “My favourite author, and why?" Mrs F. Roberts, president, Mrs G. Mathias, secretary; and Miss A. Roberts, treasurer, were re-elected unanimously. Vice-presidentei were Mrs F. Johnston and Mrs I. Mathias; press correspondent, Mrs F. Johnston; committee—Mesdames Kirby, Hastie, and Borthwick. and Misses Grace and Cora Mathias. The hostesses were the retiring committee.
