The Lauder-Becks branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held its final meeting for the year in the Lauder Hall on Wednesday last, Mrs R. Brown presiding. It was decided to send a donation to the Y.W.C.A. in answer to its appeal for funds, and also one to the Community Chest funds. An energetic committee was appointed to draw up a suitable programme for the coming year, to be presented for approval at the annual meeting in April. Members were enthusiastic about the entertaining of. and outings with, the visiting farmers and members from North Otago, and hoped that similar tours would be arranged in the near future. Competition results were:—Working a buttonhole, Miss R. Brown 1, Mrs A. Pryor 2. Highest aggregate marks for competitions won during the year, Mesdames Leask and A. Brown and Miss G. Mee (equal) 1. Mesdameg R. Brown and M. Hamilton (equal) 2. ❖ ♦ Mrs D. Kennedy presided at the annual meeting of the Awamoko-Gcorgetown branch. The president extended a welcome to Mrs Webster (president of the North Otago Federation), and presented her with a bouquet. Mrs Webster’s ad-

vice on matters in connection with the federation meeting was much appreciated. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mrs L. C. Morrison; vice-president, Mrs D. Kennedy; secretary, Mrs J. Elder; treasurer, Mrs J. Aitchison; press correspondent, Mrs J. Elder; deputy secretary, Mrs Mills; committee—Miss L. Freeman, Mesdames Gillet, A. Smith, I. Kennedy. Thomas, Fricker, and Mills; Home and Country, Miss Ledingham; market table, Misses Kennedy and Freeman; competitions, Misses Whitham and Sidon; visitors’ book, Mrs Mills. The roll call was “ Sand-' wich Fillings.” The competitions were judged by Mrs Webster, the results being as follows: —Sponge _ roll—Mrs C. Fricker 1 and 2, Mrs Aitchison 3. Banner design—Mrs Elder 1, Mrs Kennedy 2. Miss Kennedy 3. Mesdames I. Kennedy and Wallace were hostesses. A pleasing interlude followed when the president presented an April bride, Miss L. Freeman, with a gift from the institute, the recipient suitably replying. A demonstration was given by Miss E. Strachan on the making of sugar bag mats, and was accorded a vote of thanks. On her retirement as president this year, Mrs Kennedy wag presented with a beaten copper vase and a Mrs Kennedy acknowledged the gifts. Miss G. Morrison played the accompaniments.
