“WHITE HORSE INN”
ANOTHER PACKED HOUSE
Generous appreciation of the wonderful fare in “ White Horse Inn ” was shown by another fuil-house'audience al His Majesty’s Theatre last night. At the conclusion of the show, which lasted for three hours, Mr Alfred Frith, the comedian, said from the stage that applause was meat and drink for the actor, and it had been so spontaneous on this occasion that they felt they had been to a Lord Major’s banquet. Tbs company applauded the audience for its applause, and as the curtain went down the hand-clapping was deafening, an indication of what the public thought of the entertainment. The music of “ White Horse Inn ” is one of its strongest points. In particular the singing of Romola Hansen and Herbert Browne calls for praise, each securing a decided success. Don Nicol, Alfred Frith, Alban Mack, Marie Ann Conan, Colin Crane. Miriam Lester, Daphne Lowe and Jeanne Battye all bear their share of the work effectively. The beautiful ballet creates a sensation at every appearance. Even during the season rehearsals of the ballet go on regularly, and as a result audiences are presented with work which is more precise and better finished than they are accustomed to see. The beauty, personality and unbounded energy of these girls have made the ballet an essential unit of the production. The famous "fight dance” is one of the most thrilling features of the show. In the grand finale “ White Horse Inn” reaches a climax of colour and movement. The river steamer moves off on its voyage, and the revolving stage reveals the inn scene, the Tyrolese boys dancing on the hillside, and the children at the village fair. “ White’ Horse Inn,” besides being a spectacle for adult audiences, also presents many items of interest for children. The river steamboat, the marvellous rainstorm, the frisky goats and the comedy cows and bright comedians are only a tew of these. Owing to the great popularity of the show plans for the entire season are now available at the D.I.C. .Not under any circumstances can the season be extended beyond next Tuesday night, Match 24. There will be a holiday matinee next Monday in addition to the matinees to be given to-morrow (Wednesday) and Saturday. To-morrow week (Wednesday, March 25) the company will appear in Invercargill, where the record tour will terminate with four evening gala performances and a matinee. After these performances the company will return to Australia, so no opportunity for extension in Dunedin or Invercargill will be possible. Patrons are therefore advised to secure their tickets and reservations early in order to avoid possible disappointment.
