Ministerial. The Minister of Public Works (Mr R. Semple) arrived in Dunedin last evening from the north. He left again after a brief stay in the city for Invercargill, where he will confer this morning with the Minister of Finance (Mr W. Nash), who is also in Invercargill, concerning the Government’s offer to take over the Monowai power scheme. After visiting Centra’ Otago, the Minister will return to Dunedin on Fridav and will receive deputations. He is to leave for the north on Saturday.

The Minister of Agriculture (Mr W. Lee Martin) left Hamilton for Wellington last night. The Minister of Education (Mr P. Fraser) left Auckland by the Limited express last night for Wellington. The Postmaster-general (Mr F. Jones) also left by the same train.

Mr A. E. Ansell left for Wellington by the express yesterday morning. Mr J. L. Passmore was a passenger by the express yesterday morning, cn route to Wellington. Mr G. M’Avoy travelled to Waimate by yesterday morning’s express. Mr H. Harris left by the express yesterday for Wellington. A motion of sympathy with Cr 11. S. Brent in the death of his brother. Mr V. S. Brent, was passed at last evening’s meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council. The Canadian Trade Commissioner (Mr C. M. Croft) is at present on a visit to Dunedin and attended the meeting of the council of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce last night. The Mayor of St. Kilda (Mr J. J. Marlow) has been appointed one of the borough’s representatives on the Drainage Board. The vacancy was caused through the death of Mr H. H. Leary, former Mayor of the borough. The Union Airways liner Korimako left Taieri airport at 11.30 a.m. yesterday with Mr W. R. Creeser for Palmerston North, and Captain Garcia, Flying-officer Buckeridge and Mr J. Squire for Christchurch. The Karoro arrived at Taieri at 1 p.m. with Mr L. L. White from Palmerston North and Miss J. Richmond and Mrs M. Scriven from Blenheim. The president of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce (Mr M. S. Myers) referred at the meeting of the council of the chamber last night to the death of Mr Vernon Smith, stating that he had had the full confidence and respect of the business community. The chamber had lost a sincere friend and Dunedin a good citizen. Mr G. M. Lindergren, secretary of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce for Australia and New Zealand, with headquarters at Sydney, is visiting Dunedin. He delivered a short address at the meeting of the council of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce last night, and this morning will meet a number of business men directly interested in trade with Sweden.
