RADIO BROADCASTING

FUTURE METHOD OF CONTROL GREATER GOVERNMENT INTEREST (Pee United Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 16. An Indication that the Government is likely to exercise greater control over broadcasting was given by the Post-master-general (Mr F. Jones) to-day. He had received many representations as to the best method of assisting the B' stations, but no definite decision has yet been made. The Government was considering the question whether the board should continue in control of broadcasting. It was safe to say, however, that the Government would have greater control, whether the board in office or not. PARLIAMENT ON THE AIR EXPERIMENTAL TRANSMISSIONS (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 16. The Prime Minister (Mr Savage) stated to-day that the proceedings of Parliament would be broadcast through 2YA, but if it was necessary to increase the transmission of parliamentary speeches as a result of public demand, independent transmitting arrangements would have to be made. The Government was merely making an inexpensive experiment to v ascertain whether the community desired to listen to the parliamentary debates. It was not the Government’s intention to deprive listeners of musical and other entertainment over the air. Only selected speakers would be given an opportunity to speak over the air, and only the major debates and important statements would bo broadcast.
