LOOD DISASTER

EASTERN AMERICAN STATES HEAVY LOSS OF LIFE (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) NEW YORK, March 14. (Received March 15, at 7.5 p.m.) At least 28 persons have perished in floods which have swept the north-east-ern States during the past 24 hours. The combination of melting icc and torrential rains raised dozens of rivers draining into tbc Atlantic, causing widespread disruption of railway and highway communications and isolating several communities along the New Jersey coast and throughout the New England States.

Scores of factories located along the streams have been put out of commission, and at least 200,000 people have been temporarily thrown out of work. The property damage is estimated to exceed 50,000,000 dollars. The flood areas extended northward into Canada, where several deaths are reported.
