OPENING OF PARLIAMENT

SPEECH FROM THE THRONE PROCEEDINGS TO BE BROADCAST (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 14. For the first time in the history of New Zealand the public will, on Thursday, March 26, he able to hear the Speech from the Throne. In the past the privilege has been limited to the selected few fortunate enough to secure tickets of admission to the Legislative Council galleries on the occasion of the formal opening of Parliament, but as the result of arrangements now being completed the proceedings on Thursday will be broadcast. This innovation is the result of the Labour Government’s decision to broadcast Parliament. Parliament will not be continuously on the air, but its most important happenings will bo on the air, the first of which will be the election of the new Speaker. Loud speakers will he outside Parliament House at the opening of Parliament for the benefit of those outside.
