Goldstein, Mr J. Rosa, Mias M. W. Bolton, Miss E. 11. A. Lowe. For Auckland; Mr and Mrs F. E. Martin. THE PORT BINE. The Commonwealth and Dominion Bine (the Port Bine) announces that the Board of Trade has agreed to Us request that Its new motorship, which is now building at Messrs Swan, Hunter and Wlgham Richardson, Ltd.’s yards at Wallsend-on-Tyne. should be named Port Jackson. Port Jackson was the name of the original steamer of the Port Bine, and it has long been the wish of the company to call one of its vessels after her.' The possession of the name by a steam trawler has. however, prevented tills until now, hut since tills small ship has disappeared from the register the objection no longer exists. The original Port Jackson was built in 1883 by Messrs Andrew Beslle and Co., on the Tyne. She was an iron steamer with a single screw. Her dimensions were 314 feet 6 Inches by 37 feet 9 inches by 29 feet 6 inches, and her gross tonnage was 2644. Her engines developed 350 h.p. The particulars, which have been obtained from the old register which is In the hands of Bloyd’s Register of Shipping, provides a strange contrast with her new namesake, which will bo a vessel of over 9090 tons gross, with engines of 10.200 h.p. Port Jackson, ns is well known, is the proper name of Sydney Harbour. There have, of course, been other Port. Jacksons besides the steamer referred to above: notably a fine sailing vessel used as a training ship by Messrs Devltt and Moore.
