An interesting fact was related by Dr A. Ernst, a South African member of the touring party of farmers who visited Massey College the other day, when he told a Manawatu Evening Standard reporter that garden peas have to be sown from freshly imported seed every year in the Union, and all the seed comes from New Zealand. Seed from the Dominion was stipulated, because "of the large and full pods the plants produced, but if the seed of the first sowing was saved and planted the next year the pods were not only poorly tilled, but were also smaller. Dr Ernest explained that part of his farming operations (ay in 'growing green peas in the winter for sale in Johannesburg. Advertising pays its way, often many times over. It will permit lower prices through increased volume. It can reduce selling costs. It can lessen the time in which a product moves from factory to consumer.
