IMPROVEMENT IN CONDITIONS I SURFACE WATER ON OUTRAM LINE Dunedin until late yesterday afternoon enjoyed weather which provided a pleasant contrast with the heavy rain and low temperatures that had been experienced since Saturday. The weather remained fine until 3.30, but a light south-west wind brought heavy clouds, and the sun found its way through for only short intervals. The temperature remained mild, and the maximum recording of 62deg. was lldeg. warmer than that of the previous day. The barometer, however, fell steadily, and light rain again commenced to fall in the afternoon. Early in the evening conditions continued to be unsettled, a fresh south-westerly breeze being accompanied by scattered showers. The sky cleared later, however, and the remainder of the night was dry but cold. The Automobile Association of Otago reported that all roads were clear, and the normal running of the trains was possible except on the Outram line, portions of which were covered with the surface water that had collected on the Taieri Plain.
