INJURIES WITH KNIFE

APPEAL AGAINST CONVICTION LEAVE SOUGHT TO STATE CASE (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 10. On February 0 last, James Logie, in the Supremo Court at Wellington, was convicted by a jury on charges that, with intent to do grievous bodily harm to Charles Crooke, he did actual bodily harm to Crooke, and that on January 10 he assaulted Crooke so as to cause him actual bodily harm. On February 12, after hearing argument on the question whether- a case should be stated for the Court of Appeal, Mr Justice Smith refused to do so. This morning application was made to the Court of Appeal for leave to state a case, on the ground of wrongful admission of evidence. The court reserved its judgment. James Logie, alias Kelly, aged 33, a labourer, was charged with wounding Charles Crooke with intent to do grievous bodily harm. The case arose from a sensational assault which occurred in Lambton quay on January 10, when Crooke, a salesman, was allegedly attacked with a knife. A sensational feature of the proceedings was a statement by Crooke that, at the time of the affair in Lambton quay, ho had shaped up to the accused with a knife in his hand.
