NOTES FROM RICCARTON

(Special to Daily Times! CHRISTCHURCH, March 10. There was no work on the tracks at Riccarton on Monday on account of heavy rain, which gave the course a thorough soaking. The ground had dried up n lot this morning* though popls of water were sitll in evidence in places. Some of the trainers contented themselves with exercising their horses on the, roads this morning, and those who patronised the course had to be content with light tasks on the sand track. Riccarton stables will provide about 20 horses for the Wellington Racing Club’s autumn meeting, and they make up a strong contingent, which should include some winners. Most of the trainers will go north to-morrow night, among them being:—?!!. Cutts, with Fracas, Rival Shot, Wild Chase, and Top Notch; T. H. Gillette with Greek Shepherd, Pelmet, and Cranford; T. Lloyd, with Tout le Monde, Invoice, and Silver Jest; J. S. Shaw, with Dollar Bill; F. D. Jones, with Gustos; and C. Davey, with Davolo. P. V. Mason intended to travel last night with Variant and Roaming, but cancelled his arrangements, and will take his pair north to-morrow night. Those who will make the trip on Thursday night are Mrs J Campbell, with Knockfin, Tunneller, and Lady Graceful; J. C. Tomkinson, with Impossible: and D. Cotton, with Riptide. Most of these horses will bo racing on ■Saturday, but Tunneller, Lady Graceful, 'and Tout le Monde arc engaged only on the second and third days. Bereft and Dark Rose, who arc acceptors for the first day, will not make the trip. The following riding engagements have been made for the first day at Wellington: —L. J. Ellis —Gustos, • Fracas, Darecourt, Impossible, Greek Shepherd, and probably Silver Streak; A. E. Ellis, Silver King. Wild Chase; G. H. Humphries, Rival Shot and Top Notch; A. Mcsservy—Pelmet, Variant, Roaming, Dollar Bill; H. W. Hihberd. Cranford: C. T, Wilson, Knockfin; M. Caddy. Bc.auGallante. In addition to his first day’s rules at Trentham. C. T. Wilson will be on Gustos in the Challenge Stakes and Tunnelier and Lady Graceful in their engagements on the second and third days. 1). O’Connor may go north to ride Summerhill in Hie high-weight events at Trentham. Summerhill has shown winning form up to a mile and a-qunrter in the Poverty Bay district.
