WORLD PEACE
MANDATE ON DISARMAMENT In memory of September 0, the birthday of Jane Addaras, founder of Hull House, Chicago, holder of the Nobel Peace Prize and founder and first president Of the Women’s International League for Peace, a mandate to Governments on disarmament has been circulated throughout the world. This has been undertaken by the Women’s International League in view of the threat of complete world chaos at the present time and the tremendous armaments race that has set in. It is addressed from the peoples of the countries to the Governments of all countries who have signed the Covenant of the League or the Kellogg-Briand Pact, or both. It demands that these Governments shall fulfil their international pledges and in common action: I. Stop immediately all increase of armaments and of armed force.
2. Use existing machinery for peaceful settlement of present conflicts. 3. Secure a world treaty for immediate reduction of anna as a step toward complete world disarmament. 4. Secure international agreements founded on recognition of world interdependence to end the economic anarchy which breeds war. Fifty million signatures are asked for. to be in Geneva by May. These will be presented with all possible ceremonial to tho Council and Assembly of the League this year
Every country signing the mandate will, as far as possible, present its own mandate. Speakers will include the following in international broadcast: —Pearl Buck, Dr Mary E. Woolley. Gertrude Baer. Lady Aberdeen, Madeleine Holland. Maude Rovclen. Mrs Israel Zangwill, and others. For New Zealand the mandate has been placed in charge of the peace department of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, acting for the Women’s International League, and manv thousands of forms are now in circulation in this country,
