INJURED IN COLLISION TWO PERSONS IN HOSPITAL. (Per United Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, March 8. Suffering from a broken right forearm, fractured ribs, and injury to the lung and possibly a fractured skull, Lionel Hill, of Egmont street, Patea, aged 20, an employee of the Patea Dairy Produce Grading Stores, is in the Hawera Hospital in a serious condition. He received the injuries in a collision on Saturday night between the car he was driving and a truck conveying the members of the Fitzroy Surf Club from New Plymouth to Wanganui. The smash occurred on a sharp bend on a hill 14 miles south of Hawera. Mr s Flora Giimour, of Bedford street, Patea, a passenger in Hill's car, was'also admitted to hospital with extensive scalp lacerations, but she was reported to-day to be progressing satisfactorily. Mr and Mr s R. R. Signal, of Patea, and their three young children, who were also passengers in the car. received cuts. The majority of the passengers in the truck. which was driven by N. R. St. George, of Waitara, suffered slight cuts and bruises. ACCIDENT VICTIM IDENTIFIED {Per United Press Association) PALMERSTON N., March 8. The man who was killed in Longburn road on Friday has been identified through bis fingerprints as Ernest John Mathews, aged 53. He caine originally from England, and had no fixed abode in New Zealand. STRUCK BY MOTOR LORRY Rewi Lawson, aged V2 years, who resides with his parents at Owen street, Burnside was admitted to the Hospital at 10.15 a.m. on Saturday morning suffering from internal injuries caused by Ins being knocked down by a motor car on the Main South road. His condition is not considered serious.
