STEAMER HOLMGLEN
HELD UP AT LYTTELTON DISPUTE REGARDING OVERTIME (Per United Press Association) CHMSTCHUIICH, March 7. The Holm Shipping Company's motor ship Holmglen lay idle at Lyttelton this morning as the result of a labour dispute in respect to overtime. The vessel arrived from Timaru yesterday morning to lead for Wellington, New Plymouth and Waikato. The necessary number of waterside workers were engaged and worked until 5 p.m. The employers decided that no overtime should be worked last night, as there was no advantage to be gained by despatching the vessel north last night. In accordance with the waterside workers' agreement, they held that thp employers have the right to decide whether overtime should be worked or not. In the present case it is stated that the men considered that they should have some say as there was cargo lying on the wharf.
The outcome this morning was that the men working the ship yesterday would not turn out to-day unless they were paid two hours' overtime. This the employers would not agree to.
