ORKNEY AND SHETLAND SOCIETY

The monthly social and dance of the Orkney and Shetland Society was held in the Unity Chambers, Stuart street, on Saturday night. There was a large attendance, which was presided over by Mr W. Sabiston. who extended a hearty welcome to those presept, including representatives of kindred societies. Dancing was the main feature of the evening's entertainment, but the following contributed items which were much appreciated:—Mr W. Sutherland, songs, "The March of the Cameron Men " and " Scots Wha Hae"; Mr E. G. Johnstone, songs, " Road to the Isles" and " Battle of Stirling"; Miss Mavis Beissel, dances, jig and seau triubhais. The accompaniments were played by Misses E. Mathoson and M. Beecot. The Monte Carlo prize* were won by Miss Ella Thomson and Mr John Archie. The dance music was supplied by Miss Ethel Matheson's orchestra, and Mr J. Sponce made an efficient M.C.
