BOWLING

DUNEDIN BEATS NORTH OTAGO (Special to Daily Times) OAMARU, March 8. The annual bowling fixture between the Dunedin and North Otago Bowling Centres was played at the Phcenix green, Oamaru, on Saturday afternoon, resulting in a win for Dunedin by 183 points to 160. , The match was commenced at 2.30 p.m., under perfect weather conditions, without a cloud in the sky and an entire absence of wind. The green wae therefore in wonderful playing order, and it appeared as if the visitors were in for a thoroughly enjoyable outing. The news was received from Dunedin by telephone that the Champion of Champion games had been postponed on account of the heavy rain there,' and confirmation of this coon appeared in a heavy black cloud approaching from the south, spreading over the entire sky. A heavy gusty wind accompanied this manifestation of rough weather, and conditions became very uiipleasant, with the green extremely difficult. Only very light rain, however, fell in the vicinity of the green, and nlay was continued until the pre-arranged hour of 5 p.m., when Dunedin had a lead of 23 points. Most of the games reached the 21 heads, and three rinks played one or two extra heads, but in four cases burnt heads made it impossible to play the full number of games. The visitors were the guests of the local centre at dinner after their arrival, and at tea before their departure on the return trip, and the usual compliment* between the presidents of the centre* (Messrs Read and Ross-Clarke) were exchanged.
