LYTTELTON WHARVES
BETTER PROVISION NEEDED FOR CARS (Feb United Press Association i CHRISTCHURCH, March 6. The lack of provision for motor cars on the wharves in Lyttelton waa commented on at some length by delegates to the half-yearly meeting of the South Island Motor Union \held in Christchureh on Thursday night. After the discussion the following resolution, moved by Mr F. W. Johnston, was carried unanimously:— "That this representative body of motorists is of opinion that the time has come when facilities should be provided in Lyttelton to enable road transport vehicles to enter on to the wharves, particularly the steamer express wharf, and it authorises its executive to make representations to the authorities." "As a visitor to the South Island, and one very interested in motoring affairs, I am amazed that Lyttelton has no wharfage facilities for motor car* meeting the steamers," said Mr W. A. O'Callaghan, representative of the North Island Motor Union, in introducing the subject. " Surely representations could be made to widen the wharves —at any rate, the wharf used by the steamer express —to allow cars to uee it and turn at the end."
Mr O'Callaghan'a remarks were strongly supported by Mr G. M. Spence (Marlborough) and the president, Mr D. J. Wesney, who said it was high time some alterations were made.
