(Received March 5,' at 10.45 p.m.) It has been announced that Harney Ross will defend his welter-weight title in Australia early in May. It is understood that Ross has been guaranteed 45.000 dollars for a title bout by an Australian promoter, who will select, his opponent. STATEMENT BY THE PROMOTER. He had agreed to Ross's terms, which were not quite the same as those mentioned in the cable message, but were approximately that sum. It would be impossible lo arrange the fight for May, as that month would be unsuitable for open-air boxing. lie would go to America to complete negotiations for the title fight, but it would take place next summer.
