BLAZE IN TIMARU
OUTBREAK JN BUSINESS AREA HEAVY LOSSES OF STOCK (Peb United Press Association) TIMARU, March 5. The biggest fire in the city area for some years occurred to-night, when the premises of Morrison's Coal Company and Taylor's, Ltd., plumbers and merchants, were extensively damaged. In Morrison's there was £2OO worth of coal stacked in bags, and spontaneous combustion in these w..s stated to have been the cause of the fire which spread with amazing rapidity and had a strong hold before the brigade arrived. The contents of both buildings were cither totally destroyed or considerably damaged. There were two motor trucks garaged at Morrison's, one valued at £3OO and the other at £2OO, and the bodies of these were totally destroyed. Fortunately the wind was from the north-east, otherwise the Grosvenor Hotel would undoubtedly have suffered. The brigade managed to get the fire under control in less than an hour.
