ENGLISH CRICKET
LEAN PERIOD EXPERIENCED CLASS BOWLERS NEEDED LONDON, March 4. (Received March 5, at 10 p.m.) Wisden's -Almanack, in an editorial, savs: "The happiest man in England last year must have been the horn pessimist, because in 10 months England lost the rubber to Australia, the West Indies and Sonlli Africa. It is ridiculous to attribute the failure to the selectors. The truth is that nowadays there are few players who choose themselves. English cricket is experiencing a lean period. None of the youngsters tried could be hailed as an outstanding success. Recent tests have shown that the South Africans are not in the same class as the Australians, yet England had not the talent to beat them. The crying need of England is class bowlers."
