OLYMPIC GAMES
CANTERBURY’S HOPES THREE NOMINATIONS PROBABLE 1 (Special to Daily Times) CHRISTCHURCH, March 4. It is generally accepted that Canterbury will make three nominations for the New Zealand team to go to the Olympic Games at Berlin in August. The three men proposed whose nominations will be put forward shortly are C. H. Matthews (long-distance runner), G. R. Giles (winner of all the national cycling championships), and V. P. Boot, whose sensational mile and half-mile runs were a feature of the National Athletic Championships at Dunedin last week. Matthews is considered to have the leading claim to selection, with Giles close second. Both have recorded times equivalent Vto international standard this season. Boot will probably be given a further trfal at the CanterburyWellington athletic meeting at Wellington on March 14.
