CENSORSHIP OF ADVERTISEMENTS
TO THE EDITOR Sib,—l would like to protest against manner in which our officious censor deals with certain advertisements in a .Well-known magazine to which I subscribe, the effect being to destroy much editorial matter which I pay to get. If these advertisements offend the censor, cannot he find some means of obliterating them, and so preserving the Reading matter on the back, instead of tuthlessly tearing whole pages out? I took up this matter with the Publishers, who said in reply that they had bo knowledge of the destructive method Of censorship which existed in this country, and that they would do all in their bower to pursue the matter and see what Oould be done. They expressed surprise *lao at the tvpe of advertisement to Vrhioh the censor objected, and enclosed copies of the pages that had been torn put of my last magazine. The offending advertisements were for a well-known prand of disinfectant used in every house, Without any suggestive picture or literature, and when I showed them to several fcoople they all failed to see how they came to be censored. I constantly see advertisements in other magazines, and in our twvn New Zealand publications well worth Hie censor’s attention, but he takes no notice of them. It seems to me very inconsistent. —I am, etc.. Serial. Waimate, January 13.
