The following notes, which came to hand too late to be published betore the holidays, is by no means robbed ot interest by reason of delay:— Annual Camp.—All of the troops throughout the Otago district are busily preparing for the Annual Camp to h>; held at Outram from January 20 to 30. Great interest is being taken in the proposed visit of the Governor-General, Lord Ranfurly Troop.—Reports received from this centre are that a troop at least U strong will proceed to camp under Lieutenant Fleming, who, for the past few months, has been doing intensive training to bring the new trainees up to a higu standard of efficiency. Clutha Troop.—An excellent paiade was held on November 23, which was mspected by. Colonel G. R. Mitchell D.S. Brigadier, 3rd New Zealand Mounted Rifles Brigade and the C.O. of the Otago Mounted Rides, Colonel A. fe. Bn ce Smith. This troop will be up to full strength, which includes sons of ex-ser-vicemen who served with this un it overseas, and it is very noticeable thiough out the district that there are many of the sons following in their fathers footBt Clinton Troop.—The Clinton Troop, which includes the Owaka district, is under the guidance of Second-lieutenant Fraser. Major Brook, O.C. of C Squad; ion,' held a very successful week-ena bivouac last month, and also will bung in a strong representation. Camp Routine— Apart from the ordm ary camp work, the full programme toi evening sportg is being arranged and the mounted sports will be held on the Satur day afternoon. January 25. The Retmned Soldiers’ Choir, the Community bng Committee, and Toe H have very kindly offered to arrange three concert pro grammes. Canteen arrangements this year will be run for the benefit of the regi--111 Regimental Guidon—A committee has been working for many months past, collecting the names of all those who served with the early units which now make up the O.M.R. Regiment, and it is hoped to lodge an appeal to them about Mai eh of next year, so that arrangements can, be made to purchase colours for the following camp. This is the last regiment in New Zealand to purchase colours and to have battle honours inscribed thereon, and it is felt that it is due to those who have passed to the Great Beyond, who have made the regiment what it is today. It is also hoped to purchase white head ropes and saddle cloths, and with that object in view the co-operation of all members and ex-members is asked. SUGGESTED RE-UNION. A Letter Received

The following letter may interest Old Volunteer” readers of the column, who would welcome something in the nature of the reunion suggested by the writer. Dear “ Bull’s-eve"— Having been _ a member of the old volunteer companies (City Rifles and Cayersham), also staying on when the territorials were formed, I have been wondering if it would be possible to have a reunion of the old Ist Battalion O.R.V. Some of the old companies still have their annual functions, but the above would take in all ot them. There are many like myself getting on in years, and it would be nice to meet old comrades and talk over past events. As I live in Southland and do not visit Dunedin very often, perhaps some of the old sergeants would take things in hand. There are a few old members about Southland, and I would undertake to get in touch with them if anything can be arranged, and would suggest Winter Show week as a suitable time to hold a reunion. Trusting something may come of the above suggestion.—l am, etc., C. H. Wilson, Ex-Colour Sergeant. RIFLE SHOOTING. Otago Rifle Association

4/10/72.—A meeting of the council of the Otago Rifle Association was held at Wain’s Hotel last evening. Lieutenant Muir was in the chair. A sub-committee consisting of Major Atkinson, Captains Copeland and Stavely. Ensign Pell and Volunteers Ball and Turton, was appointed to canvass for subscriptions for the purposes of the association. It was resolved that the prize meeting of the association should take place on the Friday and Saturday of the second week in December. ■ That the last day for receiving members’ subscriptions be November 2. and that members could pay their subscriptions to the various company representatives. A challenge was received from the Rifle Association of Japan. The challenge was accepted, and it was also resolved to authorise Lieutenant Muir to communicate with the Japan Association, informing it of the acceptance of the challenge and fixing conditions of the match. A team of 10 to represent the Otago Association in the proposed match was chosen by the meeting.
